Hood College
The Reformed Church of the United States decided to open a college in Maryland that would cater specifically to female students. The campus, then known as the Women’s College of Frederick, opened in the late 1890s. Though it remained open only to women for several decades, the college decided to admit males in the 1970s and give students the option of commuting to campus rather than living on campus. Now known as Hood College, this school has a strong reputation for its undergraduate and graduate academic programs, some of which are online.
Bachelor of Arts in Management with Human Resource Management Concentration
Hood College offers a Bachelor of Arts in Management with Human Resource Management Concentration for transfer students and those entering as new freshmen students. This program helps students develop the skills necessary for entering the graduate program offered by the school, graduate programs at other schools and for entering the work world immediately after graduation. Hood College also has an honors program available for students who enter with and later maintain a high grade point average. Undergraduate students can gain course credit for doing an internship, and students in the management program can also study abroad during their later years.

McDaniel College
McDaniel College spent a number of years operating under the name Western Maryland College before adopting its current name in 2002. Established in 1867, the founders of the college immediately began constructing buildings for its campus that same year and classes opened shortly after. As the campus and enrollment grew, the board of trustees looked for ways to add new opportunities for students. That led to the college founding a satellite campus in Budapest that allows students to study abroad. More than 1,600 students take classes on its main campus, but students can also make some of their courses online.
Master of Science in Human Resource Management
The Master of Science in Human Resource Management at McDaniel College is one of the top human resources degree programs in Maryland. Designed for students who have an undergraduate degree and some HRM experience, McDaniel requires that all students complete some basic courses before enrolling. Those who need to take those courses can do so on campus or online. The college admits only 10 to 15 new students every year. Students must take electives, theories and practices classes and courses on the foundations of human resources management, which include an applied resource course and several introductory classes.

Towson University
Founded in 1866, Towson University originally opened as the Maryland State Normal School, which granted diplomas and certificates to students who successfully completed required courses. As a normal school, it initially only offered courses on education and teaching. That all changed after the school moved to Townson and expanded its course offerings. U.S. News and World Report ranked Townson University as the eighth best public school in the northern United States for graduate students, and Forbes named it as one of the best 100 public schools in the entire country. Towson also ranks as a good value and affordable school for students.
Master of Science in Human Resource Development
Towson University offers a Master of Science in Human Resource Development that is part of the college’s professional track. This means that the founders of the program developed it for working professionals. You can take classes at night, on weekends or even online to finish your studies in just two years as a part time students. The university also offers a more traditional program designed for those who want to go full time. The university requires that all students pick a concentration in general management, employee training and development, industrial and organizational psychology or leadership and organizational development.

University of Maryland University College
Founded in 1947, the University of Maryland University College is a school that originally opened as a college for adult students. Its founders wanted to give back to the community and assist nontraditional students who were of an older age. This program later became part of the University of Maryland School System. Though it has a large campus in the state, it also operates several smaller campuses called satellite campuses across the state. Students can also take classes overseas at various colleges and take courses online through the school’s online system, which offers dozens of programs and hundreds of classes.
Baccalaureate Degree in Human Resource Management
UMUC is home to two of the top human resources degree programs in Maryland, including its Baccalaureate Degree in Human Resource Management. Also known as the Human Resource Management Bachelor’s Degree program, this program is available online and on campus. Students learn more about ethics and legal topics, become stronger leaders and discover differences between various cultural groups. In addition to taking general requirements, students must also complete 36 credit hours of core HRM classes. Those classes include global human resources management, compensation management, contemporary issues in human resources management, management and organization theory and a class on communication in the business world.
Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Human Resource Management
Students who already have an undergraduate degree in human resources management or business can enroll in the Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Human Resource Management at UMUC, which is also available on campus and online. This program is suitable for students who want to take on executive and leadership roles later. The program consists of five core required courses, some electives and a capstone course. During the capstone course, the university asks you to complete an extensive research project based on the topic you study in class and create a paper from that research.
