SHRM Aligned Human Resources Degrees in Massachusetts

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, positions in human resources are expected to grow by nine percent over the next ten years nationwide, which is why individuals who complete human resources degree programs in Massachusetts have a better chance of advancing in their position or obtaining a new position in the industry.

In 2014, there were over 13,000 human resource specialists in Massachusetts, earning an average annual salary of $69,630. In addition to human resource specialists, individuals who hold degrees in human resources may be employed as labor relations specialists who earned an average of $69,900 per year. Other human resources positions include compensation specialists, who earned $71,800 per year or training specialists, who earn an average of $70,670 per year in Massachusetts.

In order to obtain a position in human resources, higher education is often required. A four-year degree is often accepted at most companies, but some require a master’s degree in order to accept a position in human relations. The industry is expected to grow as new companies form and organizations expand. In addition, changes to employment laws, including safety, healthy and benefit plans will require companies to seek individuals with knowledge in those areas. The Affordable Care Act is one federal program that is expected to expand the need for well-trained human resource managers.

The Society for Human Resource Management provides guidelines for human resource degrees that improve the overall education for students who are studying human resources at institutions of higher learning. A degree program aligned with SHRM provides additional value to the degree.
