SHRM Student Chapters in Delaware

Nicknamed the “Small Wonder,” Delaware is known for being the second smallest state in the nation with the fewest number of counties and the only state without a national park within its natural borders. Despite its rather miniscule size on the northeastern region of the Delmarva Peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware is home to three student chapters of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

As the world’s largest association devoted exclusively to human resources representing more than 140 countries, the SHRM serves the various business needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the profession. With more than 450 affiliated nationwide, SHRM chapters provide the opportunity for students to network at the local level with professionals in the field through conferences, workshops, fundraisers, social events, and internships. The following are the student chapters for the SHRM that offer memberships to learn more about the real world of business in Delaware.

Delmarva Student SHRM Chapter #5613

Affiliated with the Delmarva SHRM 2011 Excel Award Silver Chapter Award Winner, the Delmarva Student SHRM Chapter #5613 was developed in 2008 as a subsidiary organization to serve as a networking resource group for local students aspiring to Human Resources Management professional careers. Although membership to the chapter encompasses mainly students from Kent and Sussex counties of Delaware, any student within 45 miles is welcome to join. With meetings held once a month based on availability of student attendance, the group utilizes speakers to present information on relevant topics of professional interest, organizes study sessions for students preparing for certification as a PHR, and offers networking possibilities for field internships. Social events are also of prominent importance, including the Holiday Social, Chartering Ceremony, and Wine and Dine picnic.
