SHRM Student Chapters in North Dakota

Numerous Society for Human Resource Management student chapters in North Dakota have been established as a way to guide undergraduate students and graduate-level students toward a brighter, more secure future in this growing area of business. These chapters focus on linking students with local businesses and professionals, providing them with unique opportunities to attend HR-related conferences, and even establishing on-campus HR simulations that teach students how to collaborate, negotiate, and make key decisions on behalf of management and employees. Two schools in the state are affiliated with the SHRM and offer student chapters that add real value to an education in human resources.

North Dakota State University

North Dakota State University is often considered the flagship public institution of the state of North Dakota, and its expansive student SHRM chapter is proof of that. The school maintains the largest active chapter in North Dakota, which benefits students by treating them to better internship opportunities, entry-level positions after graduation via professional networking opportunities, and a wide array of on-campus speakers, off-campus conferences, and HR simulations. The school offers no graduate-level program in human resource management, but dos allow students to choose this area of study as a concentration within the business school. That requires students to be majoring in either marketing or management, and requires completion of at least 18 highly specialized credits in HRM. Students will focus on the ethics of human resource management, laws and regulations governing the field, and the key decision-making responsibilities that govern benefit cost, distribution, and workplace competitiveness. Upon graduation, students can pursue a graduate degree in the field or accept membership n the North Dakota professional chapter of the SHRM.

Valley City State University

Valley City State University is one of the most affordable public institutions in the state of North Dakota, and has been growing quickly in recent years as a result. The school offers only an undergraduate program in human resource management. Students will have to major in business administration and choose a concentration in this area, however, as a pure major in human resource management is not offered at the school. What is offered, though, is a student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Valley City’s chapter arranges mock interviews and networking events, internships for HRM students, and attendance at numerous conferences in the Upper Midwest that discuss human resources and their evolution over the next decade. The combination of Valley City’s strong program in human resource management, and their growing student SHRM chapter, bode well for graduate studies and professional success after graduation.
