SHRM Student Chapters in Illinois

Situated in the Midwestern Great Lakes region of the United States, Illinois is the 5th most populous and 25th most extensive state that is a microcosm of the entire nation. Home to the nation’s third largest city in Chicago as well as some of the top-ranked universities in the Midwest, it is no surprise that SHRM Student Chapters in Illinois abound. As the world’s largest association strictly dedicated to serving the needs of professionals in the human resources field, the Society for Human Resource Management seeks to advance the interests of the profession by giving students various networking and learning opportunities to help break into the industry. The following are the Student SHRM Chapters within the “Prairie State” to help students gain career exposure in Human Resource Management.

Benedictine University

Ranked as the top fastest-growing campus in the nation among the private non-profit research universities by the Chronicle of Higher Education, Benedictine University is a four-year liberal arts institution guided by a Roman Catholic tradition. Within the Moser College of Adult and Professional Studies, undergraduate students have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Management with a concentration in Human Resources Management or a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership. At the graduate level, students can also earn a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management, Master of Science in Leadership, or Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior.

Bradley University

As a private institution of more than 5,700 students in the historic West Bluff residential neighborhood of Peoria, Bradley University is ranked as the 5th best college and 7th top value school in the Midwest by the U.S. News and World Report. While the Foster College of Business offers students the ability to pursue a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Human Resources Management, the Department of Leadership in Education provides students with a pathway to earn a Master of Arts in Human Development or Master of Arts in Leadership in Human Service Administration. Being a member of the SHRM student chapter at Bradley also gives students the chance to expand knowledge through networking, job placement, and internship opportunities in the field.

Eastern Illinois University

Located in the city of Charleston about 180 miles south of Chicago as a public comprehensive institution, Eastern Illinois University is currently ranked as the 36th best college and 7th top public school by the U.S. News and World Report. Within the EIU School of Business, students have the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management or a Master of Business Administration in Applied Management. For the annual membership fee of just $35, students are encouraged to join the EIU Student SHRM Chapter to participate in various social working events and weekly meetings with fellow peers on Wednesdays at 7 PM in LH 2020.

Elmhurst College

On a tranquil campus located near the heart of the Chicago metropolitan area as a private liberal arts institution, Elmhurst College is ranked as the 11th best college and 13th top university for veterans in the Midwest by the U.S. News and World Report. Lewis University

Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers as a private institution within the suburban setting of Romeoville, Lewis University is distinguished by the U.S. News and World Report survey as the 34th best college in the Midwest. Although the College of Business offers a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources, the Department of Psychology offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management to help create better business environments. All students interested in leading a successful career in Human Resources are encouraged to join the Lewis SHRM Chapter and attend bi-monthly meetings on Tuesdays at 5 PM in A150.

Founded in 1861 as a comprehensive independent college affiliated with the United Methodist Church in the historic district of Naperville just 30 minutes from Chicago, North Central College is recognized as the 13th best college in the Midwest by the U.S. News and World Report. Although there are no graduate programs besides the standard Master of Business Administration, both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to join the Student Human Resource Group as a SHRM Chapter to explore the field outside of the classroom.
